ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The 2019 Medical Physics Scientific Conference (MPSC): "Pilipinas towards improving radiation use in cancer detection and treatment" is an activity being organized by the Radiation Oncology Medical Physics (ROMP) residents Batch 2016. This is in cooperation with the Society of Medical Physicists in the Republic of the Philippines (SMPRP).

This conference is designed to lay out current and improvements in the practices and technologies in cancer detection (diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine) and radiation therapy (linear accelerator, tomotherapy, and brachytherapy) in the country. It also aims to highlight the importance of radiation as well as its safe used in the said fields. The applicable regulatory guidelines that govern such radiation use shall also be discussed.

About Us

The Radiation Oncology Medical Physics (ROMP) residents Batch 2016 is the third batch of ROMP residents under the International Atomic Agency (IAEA) RAS 6077 project “Strengthening the effectiveness and Extent of Medical Physics Education and Training”. This program is implemented through the Department of Health (DOH) and it aims to fill the need for clinically qualified medical physicists in the developing countries.


At present, there are 27 ROMP residents from 25 different hospitals in the Philippines. These residents are under the supervision

of 13 ROMP certified medical physicists.
